In reading this transcript of Scott McClellan's waffling over whether Bush will give more than an hour to the 9/11 commission (an hour! I get two hours per week for my seminars on metaphysics) I was wondering who "Helen" was, who had the facts and the gumption to pin McClellan to the wall. Well, thanks to Fubar at Needlenose now I know: she's Helen Thomas, commonly called "first lady of the press" who for 57 years worked for UP international, and as White House correspondent for every president since Kennedy (she's supposedly retired, but evidently is still attending press conferences).
Let's put aside how heroic such a woman must be to have done all this -- my mother was a reporter, and I know from her stories how sexist the profession used to be, not so long ago. Let's just focus on the fact that she has seen every president come and go, for the last 57 years. Now read what she has to say about Bush.
You go, Helen!! You can contact her at [email protected].
